An excellent introduction to the calculus of variations with application to various problems of physics. The scope of application of those techniques has tremendously grown since the original edition of this book. I was carrying it down the street one day and a physicist I didn't know stopped me and congrat calculus of variations which can serve as a textbook for undergraduate and beginning graduate students.
